MY TERRITORIES

Anamaria sows and harvests fruits in three “territories” or sectors: Sustainability & Social Innovation, Human & Organizational Development, and Creativity.

SUSTAINABILITY & SOCIAL INNOVATION

As a Biology major from Mount Holyoke College, with a Masters in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Anamaria aims to promote sustainability at all levels in her work, and to have a positive impact on the planet. Since 2004, she is part of a global network of activists that work on the Great Transition towards sustainability, keeping up to date with the latest ideas to promote systems change. She became acquainted with the world of social innovation through Ashoka, where she worked 2002-2004 in the US, India and the Andean Region, connecting to a network of social entrepreneurs. During this period, she attended the World Summit on Sustainable Development and a few years later the World Social Forum, encountering many novel ideas. She met Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, where she contrasted the world of environmental policy and the grassroots reality, which she explores here. As a social innovator herself, Anamaria co-created an urban sustainability model called “Ecobarrios” (Econeighborhoods) in 2001 and co-founded Aldeafeliz Ecovillage in 2006, in the outskirts of Bogota. Aldeafeliz is an intentional community whose mission is to be a school of sustainability and of personal development, as well as a seedbed for social innovation, where we innovate in all aspects – environmental, social, economic and worldview, through social technologies such as Sociocracy and various activities that promote right relationship to self, other and the natural surrounding. From 2008-2010 Anamaria worked as a management and environmental consultant, at McKinsey, the World Bank, and the CAF, promoting sustainability at organizational and political levels. She presented at a major magazines’ event on Green Business, based on theories from her professors at Yale. She wrote a policy paper on Green Business opportunities in the Amazon, and then wrote a vision statement for the policy integration between the environmental sector and the extractive industries. From 2009-2017, Anamaria was part of the steering team of La Arenera, a network of social innovators, founding organization of the ImpactHub Bogotá, a co-working space for social entrepreneurs. La Arenera also launched the Colombian community of the Art of Hosting, where Anamaria has participated as a trainer. Along these lines, Anamaria participated and was the scribe for Evolución Colombia, an innovative, multi-stakeholder conversation about the future of Colombia led by Adam Kahane.

Since 2012 she is a coach, facilitator and curriculum advisor for two international organizations that train young leaders in sustainability and social innovation: Byron Fellows and Dalai Lama Fellows. She also became a facilitator of the Symposium “Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream” from Pachamama Alliance, organization that raises consciousness on linkages between the social, environmental and spiritual crises we are in as a human family and how to awaken with an attitude of “blessed unrest”.
